I'd like to push this topic because we have problems setting up our C400. I wote about it here: https://my.aximmetry.com/post/4275-example-to-setup-canon-opencv-protocolhttps://my.aximmetry.com/post/4275-example-to-setup-canon-opencv-protocol
Thanks! Jan
And Eifert, so know if Canon sends also distortion and nodal offset data to Aximmetry via their protocol?
Because in their live link Plugin description it says:
"Live Link Plugin for Unreal Engine is a plugin that receives CV Metadata transmitted using the CV Protocol from Canon lenses and cameras compatible with Canon Virtual Production System, and converts it into a data format suitable for use with a Cine Camera Actor.
CV Metadata stores frame-by-frame lens and camera data, making real-time shooting information, such as zoom, focus, and distortion, readily available to Unreal Engine."
Thats what we have to find out this week, we only have the camera for testing Till friday.
Thank you!
Hi Jan,
Yes, Canon CV includes distortion data and the nodal offset. Because of that, it requires manual correction when performing tracking calibration with the Camera Calibrator.
In the upcoming major update of Aximmetry, this nodal offset will be automatically handled in the Camera Calibrator if the relevant option is selected during the creation of the Calibration Profile:
Please note that in the current release of Aximmetry, the management of the Canon protocol is not entirely precise. However, the next major update will rectify this issue and introduce additional features.
Warmest regards,
Hi Eifert,
thank you! I dont understand why I would have to calibrate the lens with Aximmetry Calibrator, if Canon sends those data? Or why I would have to create a calibration profile inside of Aximmetry at all for this?
And about the new version - we have some issues with the Canon lens profile. For example, the distortion is too extreme in wide angle and the FOV sometimes seems incorrect. I assumed the Canon profile / protocol is faulty, but can the Aximmetry management of it be the issue? The next step for us would be to let our partner calibrate the lens, but thats very expensive, so a software-fix would be much appreciated!
Thank you, best, Jan
Hi Jan,
Yes, you don't need to perform lens calibration, as Canon will provide that data. However, what I meant in my previous comment is that you still need to do the Calibrator's tracking calibration process. This process calculates the location of your camera sensor relative to your tracking system's location on the camera. Currently, this calibration does not account for the nodal offset of your lens.
It's possible that the issue isn't with the Canon profile but rather an Aximmetry management issue. If it's important and urgent, please feel free to contact sales@aximmetry.com, and we can likely provide a solution.
Warmest regards,
Hi Isaac,
If your camera supports the Canon CV lens data protocol, you can indeed obtain zoom and focus data by adding the Canon Zoom Encoder within Aximmetry.
You might find this similar post useful: https://my.aximmetry.com/post/4275-example-to-setup-canon-opencv-protocol
There, Jan seems to be asking about the same camera model as yours.
