Cooking completed (successful) but unable to load in Composer

Hi! I set up a project with the newest Aximmetry and Unreal for Aximmetry version and I am not able lo load the cooked project. In live mode, everything works as expected, but in cooked mode, I get this error:

Cooking completed (successful) but unable to load in Composer

It says the file or directory cannot be read. Do you know what the problem is here?

Thanks, Jan

Hi Jan,

Firstly, my suggestion is to ensure that the files in your project are not set to Read-only. To check this, right-click on your project's folder, go to Properties, and ensure the Read-only checkbox is not selected:

If this doesn't resolve the issue, there may be corruption in files as indicated by the error message. This likely happened to files generated during the cooking process. I recommend deleting such generated folders and files in the Unreal project. You can do that by removing every folder in the project's root directory except the following ones:

Config
Content
Plugins
Source

Before doing so, do not forget to back up your project by duplicating it.

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert! I tried both, but it did not solve it. Any ideas how to proceed? I use the new Motion Design tools, are those problematic?

Thanks, best, Jan

@ chinzillafilms: I remember reading something about a bug in Unreal where materials created with the Material Designer in the Motion Design tools won’t work at runtime (cooked) when they have a metering function. Not sure about the details, but it might be a good place to start troubleshooting.

Hi,

The Motion Designer's Material Designer plugin issue were discussed towards the end of this thread: https://my.aximmetry.com/ja/post/4179-unreal-editor---aximmetry-202430-beta-er

Jan, does it work when both the Material Designer and Motion Designer plugins are turned off?

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert,

I deactivated the plugin (did not use the Material Designer, only Motion Designer) and it did not change anything. Cooking in Unreal Editor is successfull, but Aximmetry cannot run it.

Hi Jan,

I recommend trying to see if the issue persists in a newly created Aximmetry Blank project:

You should also turn off any anti-virus program you have, it might stop Aximmetry from executing the Unreal project.

If the problem continues, it can be indicative of a hardware issue.
However, if it works correctly, you can send us the faulty Unreal project by emailing sales@aximmetry.com.
Alternatively, you can also try opening the project on another computer. If the project works on another computer, it would again suggest hardware, anti-virus, or permission issues with the original computer.

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert,

Other projects work fine and I can cook and run them in Axi.

I tried opening the cooked project at another workstation - same error. What's also strange - I have to cook the project 3 times to for a successfull cook. The second time of three was with the debug mode. I will send you the Unreal file and hope for the best :)

Thank you very much, best regards, Jan

Hi Jan,

We looked at your crash dump files, they appear to be caused by Motion Design's Cloners or Effectors.

You could fix it by deleting the Cloner Actor Layout.
Alternatively, you could try using a different layout in the cloner:

Note that you would have the same crash if you would cook (package) with the normal Unreal Editor.

However, this is likely unrelated to your initial error message of 'The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'. If this error still happens, we could investigate it in detail, if you send us the project. Preferably in a cooked state and not zipped by Unreal. You may ZIP or compress it using another program instead.

Warmest regards,
