Exclude an area in virtual set from being keyed

@Eiffert: I am using  a Tracked Cam project  with 2024.3.0  Broadcast DE . I am using  a desk for a news anchor, and I need to create a  reflection off the green table top. I have placed a reflective surface on top of the green table, but because it is  reflctive, it is  reflecting also  some of my green  screen background,  which kills the reflection effect. It is  producing inconsistnt results.

Is there a way or marking out an area on that table top, a mask,  correspondng to the reflective surface , and excluding  this area from being  keyed ?

Hi,

You can achieve this using the Window Model in Normal Mask Mode. More information can be found here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/green-screen-production/tracked-camera-workflow/studio-control-panel/#window-model-in-normal-mask-mode

Note that this approach will also remove the Despill of the keyer. This means it may result in a different color compared to the keyed areas if the despill parameter is used in the keyer.
Additionally, in the next version of Aximmetry (2025.1.0), this feature will be renamed to "Holdout" and will include some additional parameters.

Warmest regards,

@Eiffert: Thanks for the response . The window model in window mask mode  works for rectangular areas. It would be really good for the areas of interest that are not to be keyed out,  if  the user could define  and draw out the perimeters of the  shapes that are not rectangular.  For example  a chair -  Possibly with a stylus or the mouse . Maybe for future  consideration ?

@Linford: What you’re describing is using a custom 3D mesh for a holdout mask. Drawing that with a stylus wouldn’t be practical since it’s a volumetric object and not just a 2D shape. You can already import a 3D model of your chair and use that as an input for the holdout mask with some compound editing.

@TwentyStudios, @Eiffert

I am revisiting this issue having had little success previously. Essentially, I have a physical desk I need to use in my set. The top of the desk is reflective and reflecting the green walls. I need to not have this green reflective area keyed out. Can this be done with the Clean plate or holdout mask. I am using a mixed  camera compound. I tried setting up using a holdout mask and the mixed compound however the holdout mask   option is not available in the compound. Please advise.

Hi Linford,

Since you have started a new post here: https://my.aximmetry.com/post/4706-cant-find-hold-out-mask, let’s continue the discussion there.
