Unable to cook content for Windows

Since yesterday I have been unable to cook any projects for windows in the 4.25.3 edition of Unreal Engine. Even a brand new empty project is failing. This was working fine for the first couple of days but today I opened up the last project I was working on and unable to cook content. This is the same for all projects both new and existing.

Note* Building new and existing projects in the standard edition of Unreal 4.25.3 is working successfully just for comparison.

I have been through all of the log files and they just come back with the same error codes and nothing obvious. There are no other errors prior to this one.

This is affecting all projects relating to aximmetry DE. Projects on regular Epic 4.25.3 are working fine.

I have also been through and disabled all plugins in a set of tests but no improvement.

I have completely removed and reinstalled Aximmetry DE, and Unreal for Aximmetry, as well as manually delete all of the working directories such as those found under app\roaming.

Reinstalled, restarted, fresh project, etc. Nothing seems to resolve the problem.

Thanks

Just removed this version and went back to 2020.07. 4.24 version works perfectly, although I am now unable to open any of my project files as they have been converted to 4.25.

So as it stands.

DE version 4.24.2 and Epic version of 4.25.3 both build new project files, but the DE version of 4.25.3 will not build new or existing project files and generates the above error.

I have just tested moving the same project between 4.25.3 epic and 4.25.3 Aximmetry and can report that the Epic version cook works every time, the Aximmetry version does not work despite the reinstallation.

Please help!

So it was working and then it suddenly stopped working? This sounds like a file permissions error. Have you tried installing the Aximmetry UE4 on another computer and cooking from there? Delete all intermediate files in the UE4 project first.

I thought the same thing and assumed a conflict with my anti-virus, however, I cannot find any evidence or indication in any of the log files.

Ultimately I cannot understand why 4.24.2 and the Epic edition of 4.25.3 are not affected as they all use the same Unreal project folder structure, so any changes in permission should also impact these versions.

I have no doubt that installation on another machine would work fine, so it is definitely something on this machine, however, without some indication of where to begin searching for the problem it is difficult to address. A complete rebuild of my system would otherwise be the only solution, and even then there is no protection against whatever caused this to happen is repeated.

So based upon the comments from TwentyStudios and the permissions error comment, I removed my Anti-Virus and Firewall (AVG) disabled the Windows Firewall and hey presto it worked!

Frustratingly, I checked the allowed applications in AVG and everything looked fine, but clearly it is interfering with this edition of Unreal Engine. Interestingly AVG did report a risk when I initially installed the new version, which I had allowed as an exception, but I assume an update to AVG must have reversed this causing it to block certain features.

Highly frustrating!!

Thanks twentyStudios!

Hi,
Thank you very much for sharing the results of you investigation! We'll look into what causes this incompatibility with AVG.
