Switch Tracked Cameras on one workstation

Hi :)

For redundancy reasons we try out a workflow, in which we cut 3 tracked camera inside of of one Aximmetry project with the 3-tracked-camera compound (and we do the same at a second workstations = redundancy. If one engine fails, we have another doing the same).

As expected, it works like a charm. BUT, when we switch from one camera to another, there is some kind of glitch visible. The camera input cuts clean to another camera input, but Unreal renders a frame between the positions. Is this a known phenomenon? How do we get a clean cut from one camera to another?

Thank you, best, Jan

Hi Jan,

Regarding the one-frame issue during camera cuts, there are two issues:

  • In versions 2025.2.0 and 2025.3.0 BETA, if you switch between two tracked cameras with different sensor widths, there will be one frame where the position is incorrect.
  • When using a 3D clean plate, switching cameras might result in a single frame using the previous camera’s clean plate texture.

Both of these issues will be fixed in the non-beta release of version 2025.3.0.

I am not sure how your redundancy workflow operates. Do you add more than one Camera compound in a project? If so, did you consider using different INPUTs of the Camera compound for redundancy in a multi-machine setup.
Note, even if the controlling machine crashes, the remote machines should continue to operate, and either the controlling machine or another machine can take over control.

Additionally, Aximmetry offers a Watchdog mode to automatically restart the software if it crashes. You can find more information here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/which-aximmetry-is-right-for-you/aximmetry-software-package/#watchdog
