Crashes under Aximmetry 21025 1.0 with Unreal scenes

Hi,

My laptop system running Aximmetry 2025 1.0 crashes with Unreal scenes after running them in Composer after a while. I'm using a decklink extreme 4K connecyted to my laptop using a thnderbolt PCIe extender. The system reports taht my video output is not in sync from time to time and ends up with the GPU report being in red (it's in green zone when startinf the scene). The system becomes awfully slow due to huge memory leaks and can ends up crashing.

Any idea?

Best regards,

Eric

Hi Eric,

When the crash occurs, do you see a window prompting you to save a dump file? If so, please send the dump file to sales@aximmetry.com. Since these files are too big for emails, you should upload the file to a service like Google Drive and include the download link in your email. Also, please reference this post in your email.

There can be many reasons for crashes after prolonged use. As you mentioned, it could be due to a memory leak. It is quite easy to inadvertently create memory leaks in Unreal Engine. To help narrow down the cause, you could try running a different, preferably simple, project to see if it also crashes after extended use.

There's no error message, no opportunity to save dumps. The system just suddenly reports overload of the GPU and CPU after something like 10 minutes. It is not responsive anymore under Aximmetry. While testing today without my external decklink, it goes back to normal after 2 or 3 minutes and then dramatically slows down again after 5 minutes or so. I did not notice such a cycle with the decklink connected but I might have not waited enough as I was making a presentation.

Hi Eric,

Testing with a different project to see if the same issues occur would be a good idea. This will help narrow down the cause of the problem.
From your description, it seems that your current project might generate such a heavy performance load that it causes the crash.

For a different project, you can easily create a new Aximmetry Blank project with the Starter Content when launching Unreal Editor for Aximmetry:

The Starter Content includes a few additional objects for testing, which somewhat increases the performance load compared to a blank project.

Hello,

I made the required test, activating ray tracing, I have the same issue:

Hi Eric,

Did it actually crash, or was it just experiencing a heavy performance load? Also, please remember that you should never run a production when the performance load is in the red, except during post-production offline rendering.

Additionally, which ray tracing features are you using? Note that Ray Tracing Ambient Occlusion and Ray Tracing Translucency are not supported in green camera compounds. You can find more details in the documentation here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/green-screen-production/aximmetry-de-scene-setup-green-scre#ray-tracing

By the way, Unreal Engine is not designed to render real-time 4K when using features like Lumen and ray tracing. With complex scenes, achieving 4K at 50fps with ray tracing is currently pretty much impossible, even on the best GPUs. This is why all current modern realistic games use upscaling technologies such as DLSS, FSR, or TSR to upscale Full HD rendering to 4K.
Note that the DLSS Unreal plugin can be installed on Unreal Editor for Aximmetry and will work with green camera production, with only a few limitations.

Warmest regards,
