The same PC configuration has a big difference in usage and frame rate in Composer

My company uses three PCs with the same configuration to make LED xR for Aximmetry 2024.1. They are all configured with Intel w-2255 and Nvdia A6000 with Quadro Sync card. They performed normally for a while at the beginning, but now the compositing machine has the following problems:

1. Two A6000 GPU options appear in the initial configuration interface of the main machine. But all our machines have only one A6000 GPU.

2. Our three machines use Composer to render the same scene at the same time, and the settings are exactly the same.

(This is the usage of two other machines in the same scene. Their usage is almost the same.)

When the main machine selects the first A6000 option, its GPU and CPU usage will be significantly higher than the other two machines, and every few seconds, the CPU or GPU will suddenly increase and then recover (even if it recovers, the usage is higher than the other two machines).

When the main machine selects the second A6000 option, its GPU and CPU usage will be higher than the first option. But it will be more stable and will not suddenly increase.

What do I need to do to solve this problem? This means that when I use xR, I can't use a very high frame rate (such as 60p) for rendering.

Hi,

I have never seen the same GPU appear twice in Aximmetry’s menu. However, since that Aximmetry version, we worked a lot with A6000 cards, this might have been an issue that has since been fixed in a newer release. I definitely recommend installing the latest version to see if the issue still exists.
Note that from version 2024.1.0 onward, you can have multiple versions of Aximmetry installed on one computer.

Additionally, if the CPU and GPU usage percentages are very similar, you may be only CPU-limited.

Hi,Eifert

I tried to install Aximmetry 2025.1 myself. But even with this version, it still reads two a6000 graphics cards. I tried reinstalling the driver, using the DDU tool to clear the driver and reinstall it, and even reinstalling the Blackmagic driver. This still recognizes two graphics cards for Aximmetry. But whether in the device manager in Windows or in the NVIDIA control panel, I can only see one a6000 graphics card.

Hi,

We were unable to reproduce this issue on our end, so we’ll need some additional information to help troubleshoot further.

Does the problem occur on all machines, or only specific ones? If it’s not affecting all machines, can you share the differences between them (such as hardware, operating system, or driver versions)?
Has Aximmetry previously detected only one GPU correctly on this system? If so, what has changed since then (for example, any hardware changes, software updates, or new drivers installed)?

You might want to try performing a Clean Reinstall of Aximmetry 2025.1. Please follow the guide here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/starting-with-aximmetry/how-to-install-aximmetry/#clean-install. There is only a small chance this will resolve the issue.

Additionally, try running the system with only one monitor connected to see if this affects GPU detection. This is also unlikely to be the cause, but who knows.

Please let us know your findings so we can further assist you.

Warmest regards,

Hello,Eifert

All our configurations and driver versions were consistent before the driver update (before the update, their NVIDIA driver version was 537.42. The current NVIDIA driver version of the machine with the problem is 573.24). The three computers are no different except that the one with the problem has an additional Blackmagic SDI capture card installed. They all have an EDID configured. But the other two machines do not have this problem. We tried to remove the EDID and additional HDMI cable of this machine, but Aximmetry still recognizes two graphics cards. In addition, will a clean installation of 2025.1 clear the relevant configuration of the lower version (such as 2024.1)? Because we are currently using it continuously, we need an unaffected version to maintain operation. If you need to provide other information for troubleshooting, please let me know and I will provide it as soon as possible.

Hi,

A clean installation should not remove any settings from previous versions. However, to be safe, you should back up your settings in version 2024.1.0 by using the Manage Settings > Backup feature:

You could even try 2025.2.0 BETA after that: https://my.aximmetry.com/User/MyDownloads

Otherwise, I suspect there may be an issue in your NVIDIA Control Panel settings. If you have previously made any changes, try restoring the defaults.

You should also try disabling any active sync groups on your NVIDIA Quadro Sync card. This option is usually available in the NVIDIA Control Panel, or you could try disabling the sync card from the Device Manager.

When checking for other display adapters in Device Manager, make sure that Show hidden devices is enabled:

Then, reboot your system and run the following commands in the Windows Command Prompt:

  • nvidia-smi
This should list only one A6000 GPU along with its PCI bus ID. This confirms that Windows and the drivers recognize a single physical GPU.
  • nvidia-smi -q
To see if any sync modules are attached or if there are any GPU partitions or MIG-like (Multi-Instance GPU) settings enabled.

Hi,

We have found another reason why the GPU may appear duplicated in the list, as shown here:
The same PC configuration has a big difference in usage and frame rate in Composer

This can happen if you have a Virtual Display driver installed. Some software, such as the Parsec remote desktop application, may install virtual display drivers for internal use. This can result in your GPU being listed multiple times.
