Lock to camera not working (trying to make a video-selfie - full-view billboard following the camera)

Hi there, so I am trying to make the billboard follow my tracked camera. My tracked camera is working however my billboard although the number are changing in the billboard after having enabled lock to camera the billboard just stays in place and I have no idea what is going on. Below I have attached a screenshot showing my settings and messy studio.

Lock to camera not working (trying to make a video-selfie - full-view billboard following the camera)

(I don't believe the issues is related to latency although my ethernet to USB-C adapter is coming in soon)

I have also attempted the method described by Richard Frantzen but to no success: https://youtu.be/f9Rwppemb_Ihttps://youtu.be/f9Rwppemb_I

I hope someone can help me out 🙏

P.S. Sorry for the amount of post lately. I am back and back for good this time :)

Hi,

The Lock To Camera and Auto Position are two separate settings; you should enable only one of them at a time:

If you do not have a separate object tracking for the talent (billboard), do not set Auto Position to Tracking.
If you do use object tracking or Auto Position's Optical setting, then turn off Lock To Camera.

You can read more about these settings here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/green-screen-production/tracked-camera-workflow/tracked-camera-billboards-placement/

Warmest regards,

Hi Eiffert, thanks for your response. What I am trying to accomplish is making a video-selfie. I am however running into a number of problems. I cannot get the billboard to easily align with my tracked camera. For virtual camera compounds I have seen and easy 'Put In Front'  button which could be handy if misalignment occurs.

Could you explain which settings I would need to configure or point to an example project which already has a selfie-camera mode configured (I get a little confused by the vast amount of buttons sometimes)

What is a “video selfie”? It sounds like you have misunderstood the use for billboards in the context of tracked cameras. Unlike with virtual cameras, you wouldn’t use a billboard to freely place a person in the 3D scene. The tracked cameras and the virtual cameras are tied together 1:1, so a billboard in this context is only used to project the keyed out talent into the scene. To move the talent they would physically move in the real world and to change perspective you would move your real camera. Also, without a tracker on the talent, there is no way for Unreal or Aximmetry to know their position in 3D space. You’re only tracking the camera, not the talent. The video is still in 2D, so the talent won’t magically appear at the right position in 3D space. Unless you track the talent, you will have to manually define their projected position in 3D space and if they move towards or away from the camera they won’t be at the correct position in the scene anymore. Note that with the Auto Position Optical tracking that Eifert mentioned, it will only track the lowest pixels in the live video and assume that is the talents feet. So if you have any other objects in the scene (like a table in front of the talent) you won’t get the position of the talent since the lowest pixels in the video would be from the static table. It essentially only works with a single person that is filmed full frame and keyed out from an otherwise empty green screen stage. Hope that explains it?

Hi,

Because of the reasons that Johan said, when positioning the billboard in tracked cameras, you can do so by moving the scene instead of the billboard.
This can be done using the Base Cam Transf in the SCENE panel:

As you can see above, even this will have a "Put In Front" like feature called Put Scene At Free Cam in the next version of Aximmetry.

Guys thanks you so much! It turned out I had been confused about the Studio part of Aximmetry. I was trying to achieve the fixed place of the studio function through making a complicated camera tracked billboard locked to camera. Thanks alot for your help. I think I might finally be ready to get shooting some content now :)
