In Broadcast DE 2024.3.0 our tracked cameras show a weird green spill effect when a keyed object is not perfectly in focus:
What causes this and what can we do to minimise it? We are using a clean plate to hide (faint) markers on the green floor btw.
Allow Virtuals is off, we don't want or need to do the keying in Unreal at this stage.
This is simply a very hard subject for any keyer to remove green spill from. The brownish top object blends with the green background when it’s out of focus and it’s very hard for a despill algorithm to remove the green/brown “mush” while keeping the brown color accurate. Aximmetry has one of the best despill algorithms I’ve seen, but it’s not magic. Have you tried playing with the despill bias setting in the keyer? Another trick is to insert a LUT after the keyer (via the Color Mapper module) that selectively targets any green hues and shift them towards teal or orange.
I’ve made an alternative Despill module that you can download for free here: https://www.axicomps.com/product/classic-despillhttps://www.axicomps.com/product/classic-despill
You can also try this product (or just the LUTS used in it) which shifts colors into more harmonized palettes (again after the keyer): https://www.axicomps.com/product/colorstyler-1https://www.axicomps.com/product/colorstyler-1
One final trick to try would be to add some additional blur after the keyer using the Blurrer module and drive the amount of blur using the focus encoder values via a scalar.
