problems with bilboards that affect each other

problems with bilboards that affect each other when I have two bilboards very close together they affect each other. In this image the girl and her mask affect that of the character who is sitting and makes him look as if he were in front of the table. Both billboards are facing so it's not that the one sitting is more turned.problems with bilboards that affect each other

They do not affect each other. The second billboard is in front of the table because the Look at camera is set to on, so the billboard rotates a bit. Back it off a little and you'll be fine.

Hi,

In this situation, the billboards can indeed interfere with each other.

Turning on Allow Virtuals fixes this issue. You can find more information about Allow Virtuals here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/green-screen-production/virtual-camera-workflow/setting-up-billboards-in-virtual-camera-compounds/#billboards-in-virtual-camera-compounds-with-aximmetry-de-unreal-engine-rendered

Alternatively, you could adjust the billboards by cropping them to prevent overlap. Instructions for this can be found here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/green-screen-production/virtual-camera-workflow/cropping/

@Andrew, note that this issue may occur starting with version 2024.3.0, where the new improved AA-free compositing method was introduced. This change affects how billboard masks are rendered when Allow Virtuals is turned off.

Warmest regards,

@Efiert: in what way is it improved? Seems to me it’s gotten worse if you can’t do something you could in the earlier version? For example, we often use the a second billboard to place a virtual screen in the scene, and with the new method I think we can’t do that anymore, at least if the presenter is ever overlapping the screen? That’s a pretty big step backwards.

Hi TwentyStudios,

I should have said, that this issue arises only when there's an object in front of one billboard, with another billboard positioned in front of that object, and the two billboards overlap. In the picture of the first post, this object is the table.
In the case of your virtual screen setups, this could pose a problem if there is an object between the virtual screen and another billboard, with that billboard also overlap the virtual screen.

The new method for example improved performance efficiency. Additionally, note that this issue does not occur when using the Allow Virtuals.

Warmest regards,

Hi TwentyStudios,

I realized that I was wrong in my previous comment. This issue has always been possible, even in versions before 2024.3.0.
Probably this is the first time I've personally encountered someone experiencing it.

Warmest regards,
