SRT input / outputs => multichannel audio request

If possible to add multichannel audio 8 or 16 audio channel support to SRT inputs and outputs .

SRT starts to be used more and more at broadcasters transporting video between 2 points. And audio channels above 1 and 2 starts to be used frequently as extra channels with ISO audio for video playout/translators/commentators/intercom etc...

Thanks. Marc

Hi Marc,

With SRT, you can have up to 8 channels, but you need to specify this beforehand when adding the SRT output in Manage Devices:

While SRT input automatically detects the number of audio channels.

HI Eifert,

Thanks, that is great that it is available on the SRT output already.

On the input side, when I check on a SRT input audio channels (confirmed it is a SRT  broadcast of 16 audio channels) I only see channel 1 and 2 VU meters on the audio pinout.

And I see no settings on the SRT input side to modify audio decoding, unless I overlook?

Thanks, Marc

Hi Marc,

The SRT input automatically detects the number of channels, so you don't need to specify it.

Which program or device are you using to embed the channels into the SRT stream? There might be an issue there.

Warmest regards,

The signal is coming from a Belgian Broadcaster SRT feed with 16 audio channels, which I forward via our SRT Haivision Cloud gateway to decoders. And to Aximmetry as test. I also used 2024.3.0 beta to try.

Hi Marc,

Does the SRT feed work with only 8 channels?
Note that Aximmetry currently may not support more than 8 channels and it defaults down to two channels when receiving more than 8 channels.

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert,

I'll try to reproduce with my own multichannel SRT encoders the next days, as the SRT TV broadcast routing job with external incoming feeds is finished.
