[SOLVED] UE for Aximmetry Quits/Crashes on Launch

I am running the 2023.3.2 trial version of Studio DE. I am on Windows 10 Pro (22H2) which is the latest OS my Company's policy will allow for now. I'm also using the latest Nvidia Drivers. My computer uses the RTX4000ada GPU.

I was able to successfully install the software with no errors during install. I can launch Composer with no problems. However, if I try to launch Unreal for Aximmetry, it will quit/crash immediately after the splash screen appears. No logs, no dumps. Never gets past 0% Initializing...

I have tried uninstalling, and reinstalling Studio DE as Administrator. I have tried Uninstalling just UE for Aximmetry and reinstalling it separately as Administrator. UE will reinstall separately without errors, but still quits on launch.

I do have a working non-Aximmetry version of UE5.3 as well as Visual Studio 2022 Community version. The only other non-Microsoft base install software on the computer is Photoshop, VLC, Handbrake, and the Unreal Launcher.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The Boss wants to see it in action before he will authorize a full purchase. This isn't helping me convince him, lol.

If you search the forum you should find some other cases such as yours. Often it’s some missing or corrupt obscure system file causing issues. I’ve installed Aximmetry countless times without issues now, but on a few occasions I’ve had Windows Defender silently block files installed by Aximmetry. I would suggest temporarily turning off Windows Defender, uninstalling Aximmetry and manually removing any remaining files before reinstalling.

Hi,

If my understanding is correct, the issue you're experiencing is the crash of Unreal Editor for Aximmetry upon launching. This indicates that the Unreal Editor may not have been installed correctly.

When installing Unreal Editor for Aximmetry separately, please extract the ZIP file into a directory with a path length of fewer than 7 characters, such as C:\UE. This is necessary because the folder structure of Unreal Editor includes very long paths.
Note that the next Aximmetry release will introduce a new installer, designed to simplify the installation process and resolve similar issues.

If you attempt to open a project by double-clicking the ".uproject" file within the Unreal project's folder and experience a crash, Unreal Editor for Aximmetry will probably save the log of the crash in the project's \Saved\Logs folder. You can test this by opening an Unreal project in Aximmetry's Tutorial package, for example at Tutorials\Unreal\Basic\Basic.uproject.

Warmest regards,

For what it's worth, I did take TwentyStudios advice and completely uninstall everything -- even scrubbing the registry -- then turn OFF Windows Defender and then reinstall everything (as administrator) from the installer. Still got the same crashing from UE for Axy.

In my previous attempt, I also did try installing it separately using the technique you mentioned above with the same result.

I will try your suggestion of launching a uproject directly to see if I can get it to generate a log and look at that.

Thank you both @TwentyStudios and Eifert for your help in resolving this. I am confident that once I do, I can convince the boss that this is WAY better than using UE alone.

[SOLVED] I took your advice, Eifert, and launched the uproject to generate a log file. That worked, and showed me the reason for the crash. Based on the log, it would appear that it UE for Axy was having some issues with a broken path for derived data cache override in the editor:

Evidently, UE for Axy will use some of the Editor preferences from a same-version non-UE for Aximmetry install. I was able to fix the launch error by launching my "regular" UE5.3.2 editor and going into the editor preferences and resetting the derived data cache path location to a valid drive. Only then was I able to successfully launch UE for Aximmetry.
