LOG Workflow for Color Grading

Hi! Is it possible with the Unreal Engine version of Aximmetry to create a LOG-Color workflow? It would be more flexible in post production rather than working with a REC703.

Sure, for Keying we would need a REC709 picture from the camera but that can be achieved with a LUT in Aximmetry. Then the alpha channel based on the REC709 video can be used for keying the flat LOG coming from the camera. Displaying and reviewing the final composite could also be easily achieved witch a REC709 LUT.

Is this something, the Unreal -> Aximmetry pipeline is capable of?

Thank you :)

I don’t see anything that would prevent this workflow from working right away. You can even key directly on the log color signal. This usually works better for us with Aximmetry set to Linear color space.

Thank you TwentyStudios! But how do you get a "flat" LOG video signal out of Unreal?

I’m not an expert, but if you set Aximmetry to work in Linear mode and switch Unreal to linear, couldn’t you use the Converter module to go from linear Rec709 to your log colorspace of choice? There are some log transformations built into the converter module that you can start with. I recommend just experimenting to see what works best.
