Urgent! Cooking data is deleted

Hi!

We are in the middle of a shoot, and created a new gamemode for our project, but now it needs to cook everything all over and it seems it deleted all previous cooking data.

We don't have time to wait for a 5 hour cook (which it took the first time we cooked).

Any thoughts?

Thank you very much in advance.

Cheers, Niels

Hi Niels,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you were facing during your shoot.

I am not exactly sure why changing the gamemode triggered a full recook. It's plausible that Unreal Engine references assets according to the gamemode's name or order. This linkage might necessitate a full recook when significant changes, such as altering the gamemode name or adding a new gamemode, are implemented.
Probably the best way to handle situations like this is to switch to Live Sync mode. In Live Sync mode, there's no need to cook your project. You can read more about Live Sync mode here.
Moreover, you should consider using Live Sync mode from the start if you plan to make modifications to your Unreal scene during production.

Additionally, establishing a practice of maintaining a backup of your complete project on a separate computer is highly advisable. Ideally, this computer serves as a dedicated spare computer. If anything happens to the computer running the production, you can just switch to the spare computer.

Should you require further information or assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Warmest regards,
