Cannot connect to PTZ cam through VISCA

I am trying to connect a BirdDog P120 to Aximmetry to try VISCA tracking. I know it is considered legacy tech, but still seems interesting and we want to give it a try.

The problem is, I simply cannot connect to it through Aximmetry.

VMIX does it super easily, needs only an IP address.

However when the same IP is provided to Aximmetry it cannot connect.

I tried both the port number that is included in the camera's manual, and an extra sony ptz standard port.

52381 and 52380

I tried all the various profile settings (Sony, DataVideo, PTZOptics)

Am I missing something here? How to proceed?

Thanks!

Birddog uses FreeD for positional tracking while VISCA is used to control the camera. In my opinion Aximmetry should just remove VISCA as a tracking protocol, since I haven’t seen a single example of it working well. In most cases it won’t work at all.

Sadly FreeD doesn't work with our Birddogs yet, I actually have an active ticket with them, cause their latest firmware literally broke the camera..

I understand your negative feelings about Visca, and how it is not a system that was meant for camera tracking, however it seems like an interesting tech to explore, especially for closeups with blurred backgrounds.

True, it could potentially be used for closer shots, if the camera supports sending VISCA as tracking data. I don’t think BirdDog does that.

I’m not surprised you’re having issues with BirdDog. They are by far the worst company I ever had to deal with (and that includes Blackmagic).
