ERROR: Failed to start “Not found”

Hi, I just downloaded and installed the DE community version 2023.1.0.0 to try it out, but as soon as I inserted the key the software gave me this warning:

"Not found", a rather cryptic message. During the install there were no messages from Windows security, I do not have an antivirus and I also opened it as admin. I also tried a second installation but to no avail.

What could it be?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

You could try a clean install by following this document: https://aximmetry.com/learn/unlisted/for-users/how-to-do-a-clean-install/

Also, make sure you use one of these operating systems:

  • Windows 11
  • Windows 10 64-bit 1803 or later
  • Windows Server 2019 or later

Warmest regards,

Hi,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately a clean install did not solve the problem. I am currently running Windows 10 Pro version 19045.3155 and have installed the Media Feature pack, if that helps to know.

Is there any other operation to do that might help me solve this problem? Might it be helpful to try installing the SE version and later Unreal Engine?

Kind regards,

Hi,

Yes, installing SE can help us narrow down the possible issues, as SE uses a different key. Note, that Unreal won't work with SE, you will have to install DE later.

One other thing you can try is to set your region format and language to English in Windows if you are not using English settings.

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert,

I tried to install the SE version by performing a clean install and changing the language too, but the outcome is the same as the last time.

What could it be?

Thank you for your time,

Hi,

As an extra step when doing the clean install as described here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/unlisted/for-users/how-to-do-a-clean-install/
And after doing the deletes in the Registry Editor.
You should also make sure that every Aximmetry registry entry is deleted by searching for "Aximmetry" and delete any Aximmetry related folder or registry key that the search finds:

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert,

I did as you said by deleting any reference to Aximmetry both in the registry editor and in the whole system, both for the SE and the DE version, but with no luck. I would assume, at this point, that it is a bug in the installer.

Is there perhaps a diagnostic tool you could provide me with?

I thank you for your assistance,

@ kvanee: I’ve installed this version (although the Professional and Broadcast editions of it) on 15 different workstations without major issues, so if it’s a bug it’s something quite specific to your system.

@TwentyStudios: I appreciate your input. I can imagine as well that the problem is not with the installer, however it is a peculiar problem at least especially with the message I get at startup.

Update:

After trying again to start the trial a pop-up and a warning came up:

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Here's the popup:

Thing is I haven't installed it anywhere else.

As always, any help is very much appreciated.

Hi,

From the error log it looks like that your WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) service is corrupted.

You could do this to repair it:
Run CMD as administrator:

Type "cd wbem" and hit Enter.
Type “dir /b *.mof *.mfl | findstr /v /i uninstall > moflist.txt & for /F %s in (moflist.txt) do mofcomp %s” and hit Enter:

Then start Aximmetry, if it is still not working, restart the computer and try again.

Warmest regards,

Hi Wbelog,

I am glad to hear you managed to resolve the issue.

Please note that if you open the Command Prompt as Run as administrator, it should always open at C:\Windows\System32.
ERROR: Failed to start “Not found”
Thus, there is no need for you to navigate to the System32 folder manually.
