EZ Track + External Lens Encoders for Zoom and Focus

Hi!

Im trying to control zoom and focus with freed data sent with EZ track from external encoders, EZ track is receiving data and sending over ip/Freed but when Is incoming to Axi the camera zoom data and focus is not working, the manual lens is turned off in the input module so I dont know what else is can be the problem. I have calibrated the lens and tracking with Axi Calibration Tool. Any sugestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am guessing EZ Track sends the zoom with Free-D tracking data. In this case, make sure you didn't set anything for Zoom Device:

If you right-click on the Zoom Device pin, you can reset (CTRL+Q) it to empty.

If EZ Track sends zoom data on a different Free-D data package than the tracking data, then you will need to set a Zoom Device in the above screenshot.

Warmest regards,

It's still not clear to me if the focus and zoom come in on the same zoom pin. I just have to put the device on the zoom pin and would the focus work too? If my lens is prime from the lens calibrator would I have to do the focusing process too? Why doesn't that part appear in the lens calibrator for prime lenses?

Hi,

You would only need to set the Zoom Device pin if there would be a different system sending you the zoom and focus data. But since EZTrack sends both the tracking data and zoom-focus data in one Free-D package, you should not set anything for the Zoom Device pin. You should actually reset it to empty, otherwise, it might cause problems.

If you would have a different system sending you Zoom and Focus, like you would use a lens encoder's software and hardware only, then you would need to specify a Zoom Device. There is no focus device pin cause we don't know any system that would send focus and zoom in two separate Free-D data packages.

The Camera Calibrator can not calibrate focus yet, for that you need to use the Basic Calibrator: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/preparation-of-the-production-environment-phase-i/tracking/basic-calibrator/
You can do the focus calibration in the Basic Calibrator on calibration files created and used by the Camera Calibrator. As the calibration files are compatible with both programs.

Warmest regards,
