[Feature Request] - Billboard Masks and layered colour correction

Hi,

We are working on scenes where (I'm sure most here would) we try to match the billboard capture with the scene it needs to be composited in. (Ex. A moody downtown city scene) With live productions, you can adjust lights, add colour highlights, etc. as you wish to match the scene. However, if you're dealing with pre-recorded footage that was filmed in a general clear, bright setting (like most of the library green screen footage included with Aximmetry), this becomes problematic and your billboard stands out like a sore thumb. Dropping the billboards general exposure with an adjuster is an okay solution, but it would be great if you could add adjustment masks to your billboard editing tools so that you can duplicate the billboard, mask and feather as necessary, and drop the exposure of the left side of the billboard for example to match the scene where there is no light source coming in from the left. Or add a slight pink highlight from a pink neon light for example.

Anyway, if this is already possible, please advise! Thanks.

Cheers

You can use the Masker and Blender modules in combination with the Adjuster to mask effects. The built-in tools for actually creating the masks are unfortunately not very good, so that’s something I would hope is improved in a future update.

I would instead suggest that you set the Billboard to “Lit”, with “Allow Virtuals” turned on. That will allow you to use carefully placed dynamic lighting in Unreal to actually relight thre Billboard. Keep in min that you’re still lighting a flat plane, so it won’t react truly realistically to lightning.

Hi Motionworx,

We added it to our request list and we will consider adding it in future releases.

Note, you could use the Masker and Blender modules to achieve this, just as TwentyStudios said. However, you will have to open the Camera compounds to add these modules.

Warmest regards,
