[bug] Blurrer does not respect superbright HDR Values

Hi Folks.

I rendered a spherical HDR image with some superbright lights. Here's a cropped version:

The waveform clearly shows the lightsource:

The image is 32Float, and when I blur it in Fusion, the result is as expected, with lots of blurring on the superbright areas:

With the Blurrer in Axy however the result looks more as if the image is clipped to Int:

If I'm doing something wrong please let me know. If not it would be great if superbrights wouldn't be clipped :-)

Cheers & all the best.

Eric.

Have you set the render mode to linear?

Yep. And to not auto-convert *.exr or *.hdr

In fact even switching between sRGB and Linear doesn't change the look of the blur...

Hi Eric,

The Blurrer module should work with HDR.

For further investigation, can you share the image with us in its original format?

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert.

Thanks for chiming in.
I sent the EXR via Mail to support@

Cheerio.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for sending the image, we found no issue with it.

I am guessing you are rendering this image as the sky or environment map, like this:

If it is connected to a shader like in the above screenshot, you will have to set the rendering Camera to HDR Out:

Hi,

A small quick tip.
You can check the highest intensity in an image/video using the Measurer module. Like this:

Hi Eifert.

Thanks for the reply. My setup looks a little different though, since I'm converting the spherical map to a DDS Cube like so:

So the Blurrer is directly after the HDRI Image in,
Since blurring the cross after the Camera-Render_CUBE leads to unwanted artifacts.
The Renderer is set to HDR out, but measuring the output of the Blurrer looks quite different from what you see...

CheCheers.

Eric.

PS:

It works as you described with rather low blur radius values.
Maybe it's a difference between how blur work in Fusion vs Axy, which I need to get used to :-)
But. yes, I stand corrected. With lower radius values the superbrights are still measurable.
