Unreal 5 Crashing - GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed Error

Hi everyone,

I updated to the latest release of Aximmetry and the latest Unreal that came with it, but I am constantly getting this error when I try and use Unreal. GPU is a 3090ti. I have tried to limit fps, increase gpu TDR delays and I am on the latest Studio driver available. Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you.

Hi Joseph,

You could try this suggestion from Unreal: https://docs.unrealengine.com/5.0/en-US/how-to-fix-a-gpu-driver-crash-when-using-unreal-engine/

If this doesn't help, does this happen with blank Unreal projects too? Or it only happens with GPU resource intensive projects?

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert,

I have done this and changed this in increments up to 180. It did not happen in a new blank project. I rolled back to 4.2.0 which previously worked and it is still giving me the same error. It sometimes happens after I build lightmass, and sometimes the build goes through but the error comes up as it finishes cooking. The one time that cooking finished without an error aswell, aximmetry quit because of a Fatal error in Unreal.

Hi Joseph,

You could check the Unreal forum for further tips: https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/gpu-crash-d3d-device-removed-error/514360/22
Like switching Unreal from DirectX 12 to DirectX 11.

Also, you should check if the GPU crashes on other GPU heavy programs. Like, you could run some of the GPU benchmarking programs for a longer duration on your computer. If the GPU crashes in other programs, then it is possibly a hardware issue. In that case, you should first check if your GPU overheats or not. There are several programs that can monitor the temperature of GPU and other GPU statistics.

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert,

Aximmetry crashed with a fatal errror even with version 4.2 and a previously working set.

Hi Joseph,

Do you still experience this crash?

If so, can you tell a bit more about your hardware setup, and what kind of log messages you get in Unreal if you run the project in Live Sync:
