searching for best videocodec for virtual screens in Aximmetry

Hello together,

can someone tell me which codec is best to use for example in an Aximmetry project on a virtual screen?

For example, would it be easier on the graphics card to use an h264 codec, or a Prores codec?

It would be important for me to know which codec can be processed best by the software, so that my graphics card still has enough resources to take care of other tasks.

For example, my CPU usage is very low most of the time and could compute more, whereas my graphics card sometimes gets to 80% usage in difficult scenes.

Kind regards

Hello,

depending on which Nvidia card you are using, the hardware-based decoding performance may vary. The most common codes that are suited for Nvidia cards are the H264 and the H265 codecs. So, stick to those for the best encoding/decoding performance.

There are other codecs that are Cuda Accelerated such as ProRes, but these will use the GPU more.

Rendering is a GPU heavy workload, not CPU, that is why the GPU resources are utilized way more than those of the CPU.

Best regards,

I’ve had great success with the CineForm codec, both for recording and playback in Aximmetry. It’s very high but rate, so make sure your drive is fast enough to play it back.
