Camera Calibrator won't let me go to next step

I'm calibrating a Sigma 18-35mm lens. I fill in my tracking device, zoom device, video input info and click calibrate lens.

I select adjustable FoV. It asks to zoom in as close as possible, I go to 35mm and click next. It asks to zoom out as far as possible, I go to 18mm and then the "next" button remains greyed out. What do I do?

Hi Roswell,

Please make sure you are receiving zoom tracking and it changes when you change the zoom on your camera. In the preview of the Camera Calibrator the value after the letter Z shows the current Zoom value:

You can also check the Zoom in Aximmetry Composer with the following simple setup:

At first I was confused because I didn't see the zoom value overlay, but it's because I have been using the Camera Calibrator and not the Basic Calibrator. What is the difference between the two and which one should I use? Thanks.

Actually I found the link about the difference between the two calibrators. I'll need lens distortion so I'll need to use Camera Calibrator. But I still don't see the overlay with the zoom information when using Camera Calibrator but I see it when I use Basic Calibrator. Do you know what is wrong? Thx.

Hi,

Yes, you should be using the Camera Calibrator.
Sorry for the confusion, I thought that the Camera Calibrator also displays the zoom values. It is not a problem that you don't see the zoom values there.
But you should make sure that you actually receive zoom values when you change the zoom. For that, you can use the old Basic Calibrator or the Aximmetry Composer.

I have confirmed with the Basic Calibrator that I am receiving zoom values when changing the zoom. However when I go back to the Camera Calibrator and make my zoom as close as possible and click "next", it still doesn't let me progress to the next step after making my zoom as wide as possible. The "next" button stays grey.

I tried to use the Basic Calibrator but it doesn't show the Helper Virtual Graphic even though the "show Virtual" is enabled. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I am not sure what is wrong. It could be an issue on our side.

Can you share a screenshot of the Basic Calibrator with the tracking device selected and the Position and Rotation visible? You can see the Position (P) and Rotation (R) under the zoom values:

It could be that your position is very far off from zero point (0,0,0) which is why things do not work.

Also, a screenshot of where the Camera Calibrator gets stuck could help us too.

Warmest regards,

Hi,

I have a screenshot of the Basic Calibrator, apparently the "show virtual" now works so it shows two stripes but not sure what I'm looking at. I have the Viper checkerboard at the moment, do I have to use the Aximmetry checkerboard in order for this to work?

I have a screenshot of the Camera Calibrator where the next button stays grey and I can't continue.

Hi Roswell,

The Viper checkerboard won't work with Aximmetry's Camera Calibrator. The Viper checkerboard has patterns on the white fields, also it has a different amount of columns and probably has different dimensions on the squares.
Please use the images downloadable from here on a
stiff board or contact our sales to order one: https://aximmetry.com/learn/tutorials/for-studio-operators/camera-calibrator/#calibration-board

Also, the board seems to be a bit out of focus. You should set a focus on your camera that will have the board in focus for most of the time during the calibration. And do not change the focus while doing the calibration.

In the Basic Calibrator screenshot, it seems you are not receiving zoom and focus tracking from the Vanishing Viper as the zoom (Z) and focus (F) values stand at 0:

Also, the position (P) has its height (y) value less than 0, which is why you don't see the virtual helper floor in the Basic Calibrator. If you finish the camera calibration and select the Camera Definition from it, then it will have the correct camera height and you will see the floor in the Basic Calibrator:

Warmest regards,
