The new camera calibration tool

Hi, can you please help me find the special images (chekerboards) that has to be printed for the calibration process? They were sent to me via an mab.to link during the pre-release period of the calibrator, but i have lost them and now with the official release i can not locate them...

Thanks

The revamped Camera Calibrator definitely looks promising!

Does it handle lens distortion as well?
And is there already a tutorial on how to properly use the tool?

Cheers & all the best.

Eric.

Hi Eric,

Yes, it handles lens distortion.

There is no tutorial (yet), other than how to print the calibration board. We hope the instruction within the program will be enough to guide you through the camera calibration.
If something is not clear, obvious, or needs more description, please write it down here. So we could improve the descriptions and procedure of camera calibration.

Just like with the old camera calibrator, once you finished the calibration, you can use the calibration profile in the Tracking Mode:

@Eifert: Of course this needs proper documentation! It’s unfortunate that so many amazing features in Aximmetry are not documented at all, with your users not even aware they exist. I had hoped the situation would improve over time, but it’s actually getting worse. New features and changes are implemented at a higher rate than older features are documented. Please reconsider the importance of documentation.

Hi all.

I do have to second the wish for more documentation.
(And believe me, I know it's much more interesting to develop new features than it is to write docs. Ask me how I know... :-))

Another question for the Camera Calibrator...
When you select e.g. BMD Studio Camera 4K, the SensorWidth is shown as 13.06 mm, whereas BMD's Website clearly states 17.78 mm for the Width...
Presumably only one of those Widths is the correct one... :-)

Cheers & all the best.

Eric.

Is there a way to store/save your own sensor presets ?

I'll be testing the new calibration as soon as I can get a good print on a rigid support.

Speaking of which, the documentation states that they can sell the ready-made calibration patterns. On what material are they printed?  any idea how much they cost (before shipping at least)?

Hi all,

Please be patient with us. Many of us are working on better and more documentation.
Hopefully, this year there will be many updates in the documentation.

Warmest regards,

Hi EricWest,

There are three Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K:
4K
4K Plus
4K Pro

We have the (basic) 4K on our list. The one you have is 4K Pro and 4K Plus has indeed a 17.78 mm sensor size.

Warmest regards,

Hi Ericmarodon,

The Camera Definition will remember the custom sensor width you gave to it:

You can also Duplicate a Camera Definition, this way the new Camera Definition will already have the sensor width you previously gave.

Please ask the sales at sales@aximmetry.com on selling calibration pattern boards. They will gladly answer any question you have relating to this.

Warmest regards,

Hi @Eifert.

Thanks for clarifying.
The 4K plus and the 4K pro do come with identical (17.78 mm) sensors though....?

Cheers & all the best.

Eric.

Hi EricWest,

Yes, 4K plus and the 4K pro has the same sensor size. My comment was a bit incorrect, we don't have 4K plus in our list.

Warmest regards,

Can you tell me where to download the Calibration Board? There is nothing on the Aximmetry website at these links.

Hi Oleg,

You can download it from here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/tutorials/for-studio-operators/camera-calibrator/#calibration-board
Using this hyperlink:

The hyperlink was always there, but we made it a bit more visible recently. Or you can just use this link: https://mab.to/t/NTO7OYT4jv9

Also, don't forget to read the recommendations: https://aximmetry.com/learn/tutorials/for-studio-operators/camera-calibrator/#recommendations
