Tutorial for 3D Text? Aximmetry has a very bad documentation!

Hi, where can I find a tutorial on how to place and edit 3D text in my scene?

Aximmetry, you need to improve your Learning section, it is so hard to find detailed explanations on any topic. Look at Unreal documentation, it will give you a good idea on how far you must go! Your documentation is so confusing! Please make a topic on each parameter, your videos are also very badly done, we must guess things instead of clear way to do them. I feel very frustrated and It's a real waste of time to try to learn Aximmetry nodes by guessing instead of following simple and clear instruction!

Are you using UE4 for rendering or the internal 3D engine? We can’t really expect Aximmetry to provide tutorials for how to create 3D text in UE4, right? You should also consider that Aximmetry is a small company with a specialized software while Epic is a huge company with almost endless resources.

For the internal engine there are some nice sample projects included to shows how to create 3D text. With those it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.

I know how to insert 3D Text with UE4 into an Aximmetry scene because there are Youtube videos explaining it. What I need to achieve is to do the same within Aximmetry internal render engine. I'm using demo scenes and I need to place some  3D text inside them. It shouldn't be that complicated to have some help tuto to handle this, step by step, but hey, no! There are a bunch of esoteric Texts compounds, no help to understand what they serve for! In this forum there are some examples with very few screenshots but incomplete and nothing as simple as how to do an extrusion Text. And it's the same story for other simple stuff. All Olds tutorials from 2018 seems outdated since we use massively Unreal to create our scenes. Without being able to use "allow Virtuals" because of blurry poor quality (so 3D Text can't be used properly, neither any 3D added content because they don't appear in foreground extrusion to scene.

I will help Aximmetry communication and publicity when they'll provide a solid solution and updated help and documentation contents. But we are far from it, so I come to ask for help because I can't use it properly ans ita big frustration

If you’re using the internal engine there are lots of video tutorials available that explains how to work with it. They are quite long, but it’s well worth it to learn how it works. In my opinion it’s better to learn from the ground up so you don’t have to rely on video tutorials for every scenario. The tutorial series about the internal engine covers a lot.

I’m not sure what you mean with Allow Virtuals preventing you from using 3D text in UE4? What happens when you turn it off?

@TwentyStudios "If you’re using the internal engine there are lots of video tutorials available that explains how to work with it."

I wish I could find just one that explain how to create, set up a simple 3D extrude text in my scene! Please point me at one if you have? I'll appreciate, thank you

I’m not sure there is a tutorial for 3D text, but there is a simple project with 3D text that you could easily use. I played with it some time ago and it’s pretty self explanatory.  No tutorial needed….

When you say "Project", do you mean "compound? Where is it stored?

I see a Text 3D.xcomp in "Common/compounds/Text", but when inserted into my scene I don't understand how to use it, where to hook the "Out" pin, and so on.

As said before, it's really not straightforward, you have to guess, fail and try again! What a waste of time!

I can't plug it into Out pin, on upper right, because it's my scene Program out!

Yes, I mean a compound. If you learn how Aximmetry projects are constructed you can just copy that 3D text compound into your scene with some modifications. In my opinion it’s never a waste of time to learn the tools you’re using. Sure, there could be more extensive documentation for beginners, but if Aximmetry is extremely powerful and to really get the best out of it you need to be prepared to spend some time experimenting.

Regarding the 3D text compound you would copy/paste the modules inside of that compound into your own project, or at least open the compound to expose the parameters you need to your main compound.

As mentioned in my previous message, I already inserted that "Text_3D" compound inside my Aximmetry scene, but it's not showing in! I can't see it, neither move it nor change it in my scene, since it's not appearing in that scene. There must be a pin link to grab, but I can't guess how to it.

Aximmetry admins?

I’m not explaining this correctly…. You don’t use the compound as is. Right click the 3D text compound, select Unlink and then go inside the compound to hook up what you need to expose it to the main scene. You can also just copy/paste the modules you need into the Main compound of your scene. These .xcom files aren’t monolithic modules, you can go inside edit and adapt them exactly to your needs. By looking through these included compounds (there are a lot of them) you can analyze how they’re constructed and apply that to your own projects.

Sorry but it's unclear. I unlinked it, then entered this compound but then? What to hook up, as you said to view this 3D text in my scene? I double-cliked everything to try to understand, but have no clue on what I'm searching for? How to make this text appearing on the scene? From there I could probably manage to edit and modify it the way I want (position, scale, material, etc)!

Please make a screenshot or it will go forever!

Hi,

I tested the compound you are referring too without any problem. It seems quite simple:

@Eric Soulard, I know how to link an output pin to video output! It's not what I'm asking for!

How to use it inside a 3 cams compounds, where do you pin it?

Hello @Ferlaur,

Our documentation here should cover everything you should know about the engine. You can find a lot more tutorials for Unreal because it is simply more mainstream. Our goal with the documentation is to give our users the necessary knowledge to do whatever they have in mind. We can't cover every idea and scenario, but we can cover the tools that can convert those ideas to a working model.

The Text_3D compound was created to allow beginner users to add simple 3D texts to their simple 2D productions.

If you want to add it to a 3D scene and want it to be affected by the lights and shaders, it should be added to the root Scene node. Aximmetry ships with free studios, so you can take a look at their flows and see how everything is put together.

For example, if you open the News Room - VirtualCam_3-Cam,  then hold Alt and click on the NewsRoom-Studio-Preset-Mode1

Again hold Alt and click on the Studio compound

You can see the Scene Root and how all the 3D elements are connected to it through the children's pin.  Connected to it, is a compound called text which is almost exactly like the 3D_Text compound. You can simply copy and paste it, open it and modify it as you wish(change the pin names, Shaders, fonts, etc...). By learning how the flow system works, you can do basically whatever you want.

Here is the result for a simple modification to the 3D_Text compound and linking it to the Scene Node:
