NDI Issue

Ok so after intensive testing seems that sending NDI to aximmetry using NDI Screen Capture or even vMix Desktop Capture is not the best because these two applications seem to stop sending frames when there is a still image like for example a powerpoint slide. On the other hand vMix Software outputs NDI with constant non stop frames and so works great to be received by Aximmetry. vMix on the other hand as a receiver is never interupted by the technique of NDI Screen Capture of not sending frames on still images and keeps refreshing.

This is a fact and not a theory and it would be nice if Aximmetry could look into improving their NDI receiving technology to match others like vMix.

I hope somebody from Aximmetry could shed some light on this matter.

Is there any other NDI Capturing applications that could be used that send NDI frames constantly even when there is a still image.

This issue has been with us for a long time now and is causing major workflow problems for a lot of users. It should be the highest priority for Aximmetry to fix this.

Hi,

There is a setting in Edit->Preferences->Video Input to show the Last frame instead of "NO INPUT" message:

The setting called "When no input show" will show the last frame even if NDI Screen Capture makes no input.
(It is generally suggested to use this setting once you move into live production)

Please reply if you have more issues with that. We will try to resolve it.

Warmest regards

The “Last Frame” option just hides the issue. Since Aximmetry drops the NDI connection when it doesn’t receive new frames, it often doesn’t show when the NDI frame capture actually updates. This long standing issue requires a proper solution and not a workaround.

Hi TwentyStudios,

People are experiencing this as an issue with NDI Screen Capture:  https://www.reddit.com/r/VIDEOENGINEERING/comments/nue2n8/ndi_screen_capture_disconnecting/
When we tested this with NDI Screen Capture, Aximmetry did go into "No Input" after the screen went static. But it did not lose any frames, even when the screen turned non-static from a "No Input" scenario.

Or, are you experiencing this issue with something other than NDI Screen Capture?

Warmest regards

We’re only having this issue with screen capture apps, but that’s an important part of using NDI.

In Aximmetry it sometimes doesn’t reconnect and start displaying real-time frames after dropping the connection. This is of course a huge issue, cause sometimes this frozen state goes unnoticed when Last Frame is also selected.y guess is that this only happens when switching between PowerPoint slides. Since the change is momentary, maybe Aximmetry doesn’t pick it up? In any case, other software like Tricaster and vMix doesn’t have this problem, so I’m sure something could be done on the Aximmetry side to fix if.

Hi,

We found a small issue with it.
It will be fixed in the next version. You will be able to set the device to auto and Aximmetry will handle it as if does not loses input.

If needed, we can send you a beta version. ;)

Warmest regards

I've also had this issue but seem to have found a rock solid fix.

For our production, instead of NDI Screen capture, we are using OBS Screen capture with the OBS-NDI out plugin. Zero dropped frames since implementing this.

I want to mention that the OBS Screen capture with the OBS-NDI out plugin solution that HumanContact mentioned DOES help this issue for me, but it is not rock solid.   The dropped NDI connection in Aximmetry just happens less often.   I look forward to the next version of Aximmetry DE that fixes this.

Good to know LiveGuyUSA, thanks. I've not had any dropped frames but I'll keep a closer eye on this for our upcoming streams.

Hi,

A new version of Aximmetry (2021.3.2) was released a day ago.
It comes with the following fix:
Fixed NDI problems with sources that do not send frames continuously (e.g. NDI Screen Capture, Z Cam etc.). For these sources select the AUTO mode (or leave mode blank). In this NDI mode, Aximmetry will not display any NO INPUT messages nor tries to reconnect. If you need the previous behavior please select an explicit video mode.

Warmest regards
