Datasmith C4d Importer For Unreal Engine 4.26.1 For Aximmetry

Any info/workaround how to get the datasmith importer working with c4d files in unreal for Aximmetry?

In another thread aximmetry support replied that a workaround would be to export standard datasmith files from c4d using the datasmith plugin, however there is no such plugin and exporting .datasmith files straight from c4d has never been a possibility.

Is there any other way currently to get c4d files to unreal other then exporting as an FBX?

Would be great if this was fixed as basically my entire workflow resolves around c4d and unreal and currently its really hard to get stuff to unreal without hopping trough a million hoops.

You can always open your project in the standard UE4 4.26 editor, import the C4D assets and reopen it in the Aximmetry UE4 editor again.

That's what i have had to do now, but its really counter intuitive and takes a lot of time to constantly open and close different unreal engine versions

Of course it should be fixed, but in the meantime, why not work in the standar UE4 version until the last stage where you just open it in the Aximmetry editor and cook the project?

Hello,

Sorry for the inconvenience sadly the C4D importer doesn't work as Unreal Engines

source code doesn't contain it. We have contacted Epic but we got no response from them yet

Hi,

There is a way to make Datasmith C4D importer plugin work in Unreal Engine for Aximmetry. However, there might be cases where this solution won't work or will produce errors or bugs when using the Datasmith plugin. So, use it at your own risk.

You will need to copy the plugin from a normal Unreal Engine (original Unreal Engine, installed for example from the Epic Games Launcher) to the Unreal Engine for Aximmetry:

First, delete the DatasmithC4DImporter plugin folder from Unreal Engine for Aximmetry: C:\Program Files\Aximmetry DE\UnrealEngine\Engine\Plugins\Enterprise\DatasmithC4DImporter
Then copy the DatasmithC4DImporter plugin folder from the normal Unreal to the Unreal Engine for Aximmetry. Copy C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_4.27\Engine\Plugins\Enterprise\DatasmithC4DImporter to C:\Program Files\Aximmetry DE\UnrealEngine\Engine\Plugins\Enterprise\
Open this file in a text editor (like Notepad): C:\Program Files\Aximmetry DE\UnrealEngine\Engine\Plugins\Enterprise\DatasmithC4DImporter\Binaries\Win64\UE4Editor.modules  And change the BuildId from something like this: "BuildId": "17155196", to this: "BuildId": "Aximmetry DE 4.27",.

Then you can enable the plugin in Unreal Engine for Aximmetry at Edit->Plugins.

Warmest regards,

Hi

Thanks informs.

I have changed the  "BuildId": "17155196", to this: "BuildId": "Aximmetry DE 4.27",.

It appear "defferent version" message, I just wonder how to check it UE5 for Aximmetry?

Hi,

You don't need to do what is described in my comment since Unreal Editor for Aximmetry 5.0.

Just enabled the plugin:

Restart the Unreal Editor.

And the Datasmith importer should be there:

Warmest regards,

If you want to install it for Aximmetry 5.0 or higher down the road, you must update the part that says BuildId: "Aximmetry 4.27" to the current version number, otherwise of course it won't match.
