Zoom data from Stype RedSpy kit and Depth of field questions

Hi Aximmetry team, I have two questions.

1) Zoom Data from Stype. In our studio we have Stype RedSpy tracking kit, which is fully calibrated and is sending tracking data with zoom and focal length. But zoom data doesn't work in Aximmetry when using Tracked Camera compound.

I'm using a tracked camera actor in Unreal and Tracked Camera compound in Composer.

I searched through the Aximmetry documentation and forum and came up with a workaround - I'm using Lens Data Converter connected to manual lens distortion override. In the lens Data Converter I'm specifying Stype and this makes zoom work:

Zoom data from Stype RedSpy kit and Depth of field questions

Is this the correct approach? Or is there a better way to solve it? I thought that a workflow for professional tracking systems like Stype will be included within the Tracked Camera compound so maybe I'm missing a checkbox?

2) Depth of field. Depth of field doesn't seem to work right out of the box and I have read through the documentation and questions here in the forum and found out that it is possible to override Focus Method and a manually enter Focus Distance value inside of the Cameras Control Board (it was in this question : https://my.aximmetry.com/post/492-how-does-depth-of-field-work).

But our production requires Depth Of Field that works automatically during the recording.

What is the workflow to have Depth Of Field that works without typing in Focus Distance values manually?

Hi Natalia,

That is not the correct approach.

1) Zoom:

You should check what type of Zoom and Focus data you are receiving in Aximmetry from Stype. You can do this by using the Camera Tracking module in Aximmetry.
The Zoom Sensor, Focus Sensor, and Iris Sensor pins provide raw, uncalibrated lens data directly from the tracking system or encoders.
The calibrated lens data is available on the Zoom Factor, Focus Distance, and Aperture pins.
You can find more information here: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/tracking/setting-up-the-communication/how-to-set-up-tracking-systems-in-aximmetry

Note, the whole tracking section of documentation could be useful: https://aximmetry.com/learn/virtual-production-workflow/tracking/introduction-to-tracking/

2) Focus (vDepth of field):

You need to perform a focus calibration to use the tracked focus lens if one has not already been carried out with Stype RedSpy.

You can also do focus calibration using the Aximmetry Basic Calibrator. Follow the instructions here: https://my.aximmetry.com/post/4829-focus-calibration
If you need more detailed guidance, I can provide a more comprehensive write-up about the process.

Warmest regards,

Hi Eifert, I see that I'm receiving all lens data in the Camera tracking module pins. I think I somehow ended up with some wrong check box somewhere in control panels - I deleted TrackedCam_Unreal and recreated it and now my Zoom and Depth Of Field are working like a charm without any workarounds! Yay!

Thank you!
